This is the privacy policy for groovc.com, a personal blog operated by Victor Chen. This site is non-commercial and does not sell products or services. The goal of this policy is to be clear and honest about what is and isn't collected when you visit.
Who runs this site
groovc.com is a personal blog and photo journal. For privacy questions, you can reach me at victor@groovc.com.
What data is collected from visitors
Server logs. The site is hosted on Dreamhost, which automatically records standard web server access logs. These typically include your IP address, the page you requested, your browser's user agent string, and a timestamp. These logs are retained per Dreamhost's standard policies and are used only for diagnosing site problems and security.
Analytics. The site loads Google Analytics (gtag.js) to count page views and understand which posts are popular. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect data about your visit subject to Google's privacy policy. No personally identifying information is intentionally collected by this site.
Local browser storage. The site uses a service worker to cache pages, images, and assets in your browser so the site loads quickly and works offline. This data lives entirely on your device and is not transmitted back to me. You can clear it any time via your browser's site settings.
Instagram content
The home page displays recent posts from my own Instagram account (@groovc) using the Instagram Graph API. Only my own public posts are fetched and displayed. The site does not read, request, store, or process data from any visitor's Instagram account, and you are not asked to log in to Instagram to view this site.
Third parties
Pages on this site may load content from the following third parties:
- Dreamhost — web hosting
- Meta / Instagram — image CDN for Instagram media (cached locally where possible)
- Google Analytics — visit analytics
- Disqus — comment widget on individual posts (only loaded on post pages)
- YouTube — embedded videos on some posts (only when present)
Each of these services has its own privacy policy that governs the data they collect.
Cookies
This site does not set its own tracking cookies. Cookies you may encounter come from the third parties listed above (primarily Google Analytics, and Disqus on post pages). You can block or clear cookies through your browser at any time.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated occasionally. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
